BURNING MAN 2010 “METROPOLIS”
Começa hoje o festival BURNING MAN (30 de agosto a 6 de Setembro), um festival que, na verdade, não tem muito como descrevê-lo, nem por fotos e nem por vídeos. São sete dias de desligamento total com o planeta! São sete dias em pura harmonia e equilíbrio, muita música, arte de todos os tipos, esculturas, performance, shows, palestras, work shop… Onde ninguém é mais do que ninguém, ” onde todos somos iguais”, onde todos se ajudam como uma grande comunidade, ” um planeta onde todos somos irmãos”. Dentro do BM tudo é na base da troca, (comida, bebida…) a única coisa que é possível comprar é gelo e café.
O festival acontece todos os anos na mesma época, no chamado BLACK ROCK CITY localizado no meio do nada, ou melhor, no meio do deserto do Nevada CA. Como chegar até lá? Primeiro inscreva-se pelo próprio site do BM: http://www.burningman.com, depois é só chegar até San Francisco CA ou se preferir ir direto a Reno (com aeroporto internacional Reno fica a mais ou menos 50 min do BM/carro). Reno é uma das últimas opções pra comprar água, comida, equipamentos e tudo que precisa antes de chegar no deserto. É muito importante não esquecer de levar: água, lanterna (de preferência aquela de colocar na cabeça que é usada nas cavernas), comida para os 7 dias, óculos escuros, uma “bandana” pra cobrir a cara em caso de tempestade de areia (muito comum), que por sinal são muito divertidas. Outro detalhe muito importante é levar uma bicicleta (ou comprar em FERNLEY NV (10 a 50 USD), última vila antes do BM) é a melhor forma de se locomover por lá. Mesmo estando no meio do deserto, no meio do nada, o festival é muito bem organizado e tem uma infraestrutura muito profissional. “METROPOLIS” é o tema de 2010, vai funcionar como um ” instrumento”, através do qual é possível inspecionar o curso da vida diária das cidades e da perspectiva de futuro da civilização no mundo. É uma experiência única.

Burning Man teve inÍcio em 1986 (apox.20 pessoas participando), quando Larry Harvey, Jerry James e alguns amigos iniciaram esse “ritual” em Baker Beach, em San Francisco CA. O festival foi tomando proporções maiores e em 1990 (apox.500 pessoas) o evento migrou para Black Rock City, onde acontece até hoje…
Hoje o evento conta com mais de 60 mil pessoas de todos os cantos do mundo, vivendo em plena harmonia, em plena paz.

the “giant project” in NY…

We love New York City!, especially in the Summer time. It’s great to be back to visiting friends and seeing all the new graffiti in the streets.
This past Sunday we began a new mural in Chelsea, on the exterior wall of PS 11 (320 West 21st street ) together with the legendary Futura2000. The project was organized by Allen Benedikt (from AKANYC and 12ozProphet.com) with support from the Artists, AKANYC, Montana Colors and in conjunction with the Nike World Basketball Festival.
The idea was to bring a ‘Gigante’ to NY, as we’ve done in Greece, Holland, Lisboa, London and Sao Paulo.
Uniting two different styles from opposite extremes was one of the challenges, as well as the objective. The idea was to unite two styles that are completely different so they become one. The concept behind the flags (with the colors completely altered from their originals) signifies unity, a world without borders, combined to form “one world one voice”.
Without distinction to language or race…
We also sought to establish a visual communication with the children of PS 11 and the surrounding community that walk by the mural each day.
Futura working on the pattern for the shirt, which we hope will prove that two styles from different extremes can combine harmoniously….
The wall is finished today! we love it!
